Arcadium Shopping Mall

Project Name : Arcadium Shopping Mall
Location : Ankara - Turkiye

Scope of the Project : Arcadium Shopping Mall built on 9,800 m2 land at the Cayyolu site of Ankara province, consists of total 37,876 m2 closed area, 15,045 m2 closed car park area and 3,500 m2 of greenery zone. With its interior hyper-market, restaurants and fast-food courts in addition to bowling and cinema halls, it is not just a shopping centre but also a recreation centre. The project composes of three blocks; upper structure being of joist slab, the storey height of block-B is 7.2 m. and the other block heights are 4.60 meters. Works were started in the August of 2002 and the rough works were completed in March, 2003, within a very tight work schedule

The south of Warsaw is a chaotic neighborhood with different architecture styles, varying building heights and a big amount of green areas that spread between them without any clearly defined shape and order. At some point, it stopped being a dormitory and more people started to settle there for good. Therefore, a necessity for a new city center with office spaces and retail areas appeared. The proposed form of the design by MJZ | Maciej Jakub Zawadzki organizes all these factors to bring some order into this chaos. More images and architects’ description after the break.

Most of the space of the existing site is taken by a shopping mall and its adjacent big parking areas. These retail functions mostly do not have appealing facades (which serve as big ads to sell the products) and big flat unused roof areas. In this case, they would serve as a base for the whole complex and their potential would be used to the maximum.

By extending the forest that lies next to the site, on top of this retail block and creating paths connecting the main surrounding streets a new public park would be created. The office spaces would be spread around this green development in blocks with different heights which would depend on the next surrounding neighbor. This would create a connection with the old housings and make the whole district more consistent and compact.

Selfridges shopping center in Birmingham

The architecture firm Future Systems were appointed by Selfridge's then chief executive, Vittorio Radice, to design only the third store outside London. Although Selfridges was physically integrated with the Bullring Shopping Centre the client wanted a distinct design approach which would set the store apart from the rest of the development and become an instantly recognisable signpost for the brand.[1] The building's facade is curved, wrapping around the corner of Moor Street and Park Street. The facade comprises 15,000 anodised aluminium discs mounted on a blue background
