they based their design around the 'cicada' insect now largely extinct in taiwan.
'cicada pop' represents the re-birth of the natural world in a growing taipei, and a traditional
symbol of transcendence in china.
the meta-scale of the new pop music center is a beacon for the 'incomplete cityscape'
of nangang district of the city that asserts the power of pop music and youth. the cicada
breaks the limitations of the project site, and turns to face the center city, the danshul river
and the taiwan strait beyond.
the visitor is enveloped in a multi-leveled colorful world of pop. cicada pop is to be an icon
of taipei city, where offices, shops, plazas, a main hall, hall of fame, live houses and an
enormous flat-floored outdoor performance space is conceptualized as a great venue, placed
