نژاد گریت دین

گریت دین (Great Dane) همچنین بنام های ژرمن ماستیف و سگ دانمارکی نامیده میشود. با سایز بزرگش معروف است. اصالتا برای شکار گوزن و گراز وحشی بوجود آمده اند.

The Great Dane , also known as German Mastiff or Danish Hound known for its giant size. The Great Dane is one of the world's tallest dog breeds; the current world record holder, measuring 112 cm (44 in) from paw to shoulder. Great danes were originally bred to hunt deer and wild boar.

The Great Dane combines, in its regal appearance, dignity, strength and elegance with great size and a powerful, well-formed, smoothly muscled body. It is one of the giant working breeds, but is unique in that its general conformation must be so well balanced that it never appears clumsy, and shall move with a long reach and powerful drive."

گریت دین شاهانه، با عزت، قدرت و ظرافت است. با جثه بزرگ و قدرتمند یکی از بزرگترین سگهاست ولی باید بالانس بدنی اش حفظ شود تا زمخت بنظر نرسد. نژادی با موهای کوتاه است و قد و درازای متناسبی باید داشته باشد.

The Great Dane is a short haired breed. In the ratio between length and height, the Great Dane should be square. The male dog should not be less than 30 in (76 cm) at the shoulders, a female 28 in (71 cm). Danes under minimum height are disqualified.

From year to year, the tallest living dog is typically a Great Dane.The current record holder is a black Great Dane named Zeus who stands 112 cm (44 in) at the shoulder. He is also the tallest dog on record (according Guinness World Records), beating the previous holder who was a blue Great Dane named George, who stood 110 cm (43 in) at the shoulder.

وقتی صحبت از بزرگترین سگها میشود گریت دین همیشه در رتبه اول است. در حال حاضر هم یک گریت دین مشکی بنام زئوس با ۱۱۲ سانتی متر ( در ناحیه شانه ) بزرگترین سگ زنده جهان است.

The minimum weight for a Great Dane over eighteen months is 120 lb (54 kg) for males, 100 lb (45 kg) for females. Unusually, the American Kennel Club dropped the minimum weight requirement from its standard. The male should appear more massive throughout than the female, with a larger frame and heavier bone.

حداقل وزن گریت دین در ۱۸ ماهگی برای نرها ۵۴ و برای ماده ها ۴۵ کیلوگرم است. نرها باید عضلانی تر و با اسکلت قویتر از ماده ها باشند.

Great Danes have naturally floppy, triangular ears. In the past, when Great Danes were commonly used to hunt boars , cropping of the ears was performed to make injuries to the dogs' ears less likely during hunts. Now that Danes are primarily companion animals , cropping is sometimes still done for traditional and cosmetic reasons.

گریت دین ها بطور طبیعی گوشهای مثلثی آمیخته ای دارند. در گذشته وقتی که آنها برای شکار گراز استفاده میشدند کوتاه کردن گوشها برای پرهیز از زخمی شدن در حین شکار انجام میشد.

In the 1930s when Great Danes had their ears cropped, after the surgery two devices called Easter Bonnets were fitted to their ears to make them stand up. Today, the practice is common in the US but much less common in Europe. In some European countries such as the UK , Ireland, Denmark ,Germany , parts of Australia , and in New Zealand , the practice is banned, or controlled to only be performed by veterinary surgeons .

در دهه ۱۹۳۰ با جراحی گوشهای آنها را صاف نگه میداشتند. اینکار هنوز در امریکا انجام می شود ولی در اروپا کمتر متداول است و حتی در بعضی کشورها ممنوع است.

The Great Dane's large and imposing appearance belies its friendly nature. The breed is often referred to as a gentle giant. Great Danes are generally well-disposed toward other dogs, other non-canine pets, and humans but strangers are obviously an exception.

ظاهربزرگ و با ابهت گریت دین ها برخلاف طبیعت دوستانه آنهاست. گریت دین ها با سایر سگها، حیوانات و انسانها خوب هستند ولی نه با غریبه ها.

They generally do not exhibit extreme aggressiveness or a high prey drive . The Great Dane is a very gentle and loving animal with proper care and training. A Great Dane is great for small children and a loving family as long as it grows up in the family from a pup. However if not socialized from a pup can be very aggressive towards other dogs.

گریت دین ها معمولا خیلی مهاجم نیستند. بسیار دوست داشتنی هستند و مخصوصا با بچه ها رفتار خوبی دارند مخصوصا اگر از بچگی نگهداری شوند. ولی چنانچه از تولگی خوب تربیت نشوند با سایر سگها رفتار تهاجمی دارند.
